Beacon Technologies is directly connected to the Internet through UUNET / WorldCom and SAVVIS Communications. Millersville University is daisy-chained to the Internet through PA-SSHEnet and then Voicenet. - 09/25/02 - Today WIXQ went back on the air (a whole day early, too)! We are using the old transmitter for the time being (until we get a part replaced on the newer one). Our signal will most likely not be as strong, but a weak signal is an improvement over no signal. Dan - 09/23/02 - This morning our beloved station went off the air. The cause? A blown transmitter. Because of this major problem, WIXQ WILL BE OFF THE AIR UNTIL THURSDAY MORNING. Andrew - 03/01/02 - Jon, our computer administrator, has installed an upgrade to our RealAudio server, so, hopefully, it will not go down nearly as often. Prior to the upgrade, the broadcast encountered an error and died every Sunday night, practically like clockwork. We have had one Sunday of error-free broadcast since then, so keep your fingers crossed! We've had several listeners with AOL dial-up accounts complaining about not being able to tune in to the RealAudio or Windows Media streams. If you're an AOL user, and you've been running into similar problems, the only advice we have, unfortunately, is to switch over to a better Internet Service Provider. Additionally, any dial-up account, AOL or otherwise, will probably have trouble handling the Windows Media stream. It is designed for higher bandwidth connections - a phoneline can only carry so much data. Beacon Technologies, our ISP, is never at fault for streaming issues. All RealAudio and Windows Media streaming is handled locally, at WIXQ-Central. If you can see the webpage, Beacon is doing their job! The streams aren't their department. A final note, our Windows Media stream is presently in 'fake-stereo' (aka, mono). There's some issues with the wiring coming out of the studio forcing the throttling back to mono. We hope to have a true stereo stream sometime in the near future. Brian - 09/24/01 - Our RealAudio stream is back online. Brian - 09/22/01 - Our RealAudio broadcast has been down since Friday the 21st due to a mechanical problem at WIXQ. We will hopefully have it fixed by Monday 09/24. Brian - 03/05/01 - Our station engineer has informed us that ice may be have accumulated on the antenna from the previous night's storm. If this is the case, signal range may be temporarily reduced.
